Privacy notice

Hambridge AutoWorks Ltd is the data controller for the information described here. This notice covers the website only; work carried out on your vehicle is recorded separately in our workshop system.
What we collect, and when
Registration lookups
When you check a registration we send it to the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service and the DVSA MOT History API to get the result back. We do not store the registration, we do not log it against your IP address, and we do not build a record of what you have looked up. The result is held in memory for up to six hours so that repeated checks of the same plate do not consume our API quota — it is not associated with you.
Vehicle data returned by those services is information about a vehicle, not about a person. It does not include keeper details, and we could not obtain them if we wanted to.
Bookings
To hold a slot we need your name, email address, phone number, vehicle registration, and anything you type into the notes field. The lawful basis is performance of a contract — we cannot book your car in without being able to identify it or contact you.
Booking records are kept for six years, because HMRC requires business records supporting an invoice to be retained for that long.
Messages sent through the site
Your name, email address and message, on the basis of legitimate interests — you have asked us a question and we need to answer it. Deleted after twelve months unless it became a booking or a job.
What we do not do
- No advertising or analytics cookies. The site sets no cookies at all.
- No third-party trackers, pixels, or embedded social widgets.
- No marketing emails. We contact you about your booking and nothing else.
- We never sell, rent or share your details with anyone for marketing.
Who we share data with
Our hosting provider processes the site’s traffic in order to serve it. DVLA and DVSA receive the registration you type, because that is how a lookup works. Our accountant sees invoices, which include your name and vehicle. That is the complete list.
Data is processed in the UK and the European Economic Area. We do not transfer personal data outside that area.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to how we use it, or ask for it in a portable format. Write to hello@hambridgeautoworks.co.uk or to the address below. We respond within one month and there is no charge.
Deletion has a limit: we cannot delete a record we are legally required to keep for HMRC, and we will tell you if that applies.
Complaints
Tell us first — hello@hambridgeautoworks.co.uk or 01632 960 118. If you are not satisfied you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.
