Why choose us
A local garage that explains what it is doing
We have been servicing and testing cars on Kiln Lane since 2009. Four technicians, three ramps, and around 900 vehicles a year.
An MOT here costs £45. The most a garage is legally allowed to charge for a Class 4 test is £54.85, and plenty charge it. We do not, because the test is not where a garage should be making its money.
Dave opened the place in 2009after eleven years at a main dealer, where the monthly target for “additional work identified” was the thing that finally made him leave. The whole business is built around not doing that.

The MOT
What is checked in an MOT test
An MOT checks that your car meets the legal minimum safety and emissions standards on the day of the test. It is not a service, and it does not include an oil change.
Advisories are items the tester found wearing but not yet bad enough to fail. Every advisory ever recorded on your car is on the DVSA database, and you can see them all with a free registration check.
The five areas checked
- Brakes
- Pads, discs, pipes, and efficiency on the roller tester
- Steering & suspension
- Play in joints, shock absorbers, springs and bushes
- Tyres & wheels
- Tread depth, sidewalls, load rating and wheel security
- Lights & visibility
- Headlamp aim, every lamp, wipers, washers and screen damage
- Structure & emissions
- Corrosion near mountings, exhaust, and emissions to your engine's standard

What our customers say
★★★★★5 out of 5
“Failed on a corroded brake pipe. They rang me before doing anything, sent a photo of it, and told me what it would cost. £96 and it passed the retest the same afternoon. The main dealer had quoted me £340 for the same job last year on a different car.”
★★★★★5 out of 5
“Van is my livelihood so I cannot have it sat about. Booked Tuesday, in and out Wednesday morning before eight thirty. They also spotted a split CV boot and did it while it was up on the ramp rather than making me come back.”
★★★★★5 out of 5
“I had been told by somewhere else that a hybrid had to go to Toyota. Not true. They did the service, showed me the brake caliper they had stripped and greased, and explained why EVs and hybrids eat calipers. First garage that has ever explained anything to me instead of just handing me a bill.”
