The MOT emissions limits tightened in 2018 and again since. A diesel with any visible smoke from the exhaust during the test fails outright, regardless of the meter reading.
A blocked diesel particulate filter is usually caused by short journeys that never let it regenerate. We can often clean one on the car rather than replacing it, which is the difference between a few hundred pounds and a few thousand.
Removing a DPF or cat is an automatic MOT failure and illegal for road use. We will not do it, and we will tell you if a previous garage already has.
